Book Blogger Hop #2

Book Blogger Hop is a weekly meme hosted by Crazy for Books. The Hop lasts Friday-Monday every week, so if you don’t have time to Hop today, you can join the fun later! This is a weekly event! And stop back throughout the weekend to see all the new blogs that are added!

This week’s question:

“What book-to-movie adaption have you most liked? Which have you disliked?”

I can think of very few movies based on books that I liked. One movie I really loved was Silence of the Lambs. Another movie version that I loved was Stephen King’s Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption. I can’t say the same for the rest of his books though! The Shining for instance; they did a horrible job with the characters in that movie!

I liked the first two Harry Potter movies, but the Prisoner of Azkaban movie was nightmarish – no Marauders’ story, a demented looking guy as Sirius; they took away my favourite parts of the book – except the Boggart lesson! And the movies after that were just as absurd! I hated the Half Blood Prince; it’s as if they rounded up the most important parts of the book and replaced them with stupid, unnecessary stuff! The Deathly Hallows was okay though!

By the way, I just finished reading Howl’s Moving Castle (it’s awesome!) and I am so sure I won’t like that Japanese animated film based on it that I am not going to watch it!

  1. I also chose The Silence of the Lambs as one of my favorite adaptations, and Shawshank Redemption is an amazing movie.
All the Harry Potter films annoy me but the one that got to me the most was The Goblet of Fire – where was Dobby?

  2. I have to say that I'm a big fan of the HP movies. It was during the fourth one that I realized the movies will never be the same as the books. The books are just too wonderful to adapt to screen. Now when I go to the see the movies I try to forget about the book so I don't compare them. If that makes any sense?!

I can certainly understand your frustration with the movies though. I feel the same about Twilight.

Found you on the blog hop

  3. Oh…I LOVED The Silence of the Lambs (almost put it on my list too, lol). It is definitely one of my favorites!

  4. Definitely agree about Half-Blood Prince. Like you, I really enjoyed Silence of the Lambs but I haven't read the book so unfortunately I can't compare the two.

  5. Hi Priya, just stopping by on the weekly hop. I've never read any of the Harry Potter books so can't really make a comment on them. Shawshank Redemption was an awesome adaptation though as was another King favorite of mine 'The Body' which went on to become the movie 'Stand By Me'.
Would have followed by your GFC doesn't appear to be working…it's just blank in my browser (Google Chrome).

  6. Lauren B – You know what, now that you mention it, the Goblet of Fire movie wasn't all that great either!

Lucy – I see what you mean. I do end up watching the movies as soon as they're released. But when I read the books, specially the later ones, I kept wondering how they'd film a certain scene. And you go and see; and half the stuff you're expecting isn't there! It's disappointing, really!!

DeniseF – Isn't it? I read the book because many people recommended the movie; but I wanted to read the book first, being a Stephen King fan!!

Ice Dancer Lilith – Silence of the Lambs is one of my favourite movies, book or no book!!

Bookworm1858 – This is one movie I watched before I read the book! Spoiled the suspense a bit, but it's still an amazing read!!

  7. BookMarc Blogpants – I have no idea why it wouldn't work, but thanks anyway! I have had the Body on my TBR list for a while; and I don't usually watch the movie before reading the book!! So, I guess I'll have to read it soon!!
    Thanks for stopping by 🙂

  8. I'd encourage you to try the movie version of Howl's Moving Castle, because it's not too bad — and it's interesting to compare it to the book. 🙂

    Happy Hopping!

  9. I haven't read Howl's Moving Castle and I didn't care for the movie, but after reading this post I might have to add it to my to-be-read list!

  10. Silence of The Lambs was a good choice, happy Friday!

  11. I loved both "Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption" and the movie! 😀 It's one of the movies I could watch over and over again, and I have, too. Thank you for visiting, Priya, and have a wonderful weekend!
