The glottis is the opening between the vocal cords, where all sound lives. The Glottal Stop is a sound produced by the closing of the vocal cords. The phonetic alphabet represents it with a little /ʔ/… the sound that takes your breath way; the beginning of a laugh; and your one stop for all things linguistic.
